Sand in a whirlwind

Sinem Dişli

Disli was born in 1982 in Urfa, Turkey. She earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Dokuz Eylul University in 2004 and earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Photography in 2007 from Marmara University. From 2005 to 2008, she worked for the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art as an assistant curator at the Photography Department. In 2008, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the School of Visual Arts summer residency program, based on her project “Resistance” combining Photography and Visual Arts elements. In addition to two solo exhibitions, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions in several countries such as Cyprus and USA. She also participated in 1st International ULIS fotoFEST Photography Festival, 1st International IFSAK Photography Biennial in Istanbul and Vienna Art Fair'11 and “Unseen” Photo Fair Amsterdam'12. She examins the limits of photography and is interested in its ambiguity and redefinition as a medium. Thus her work consists an interdisciplinary approach. She splits her time between Istanbul and New York since 2008, and is represented by The Empire Project in Istanbul.
