MEHMET GULERYUZ / WITH ONE EYE'S OPEN The Empire Project, Sıraselviler
07 Mar - 27 Apr 2013

In his 55th year of art, Mehmet Güleryüz will be displaying his new paintings and drawings in an exhibition: "With One's Eyes Open" at The Empire Project between 7 March-27 April 2013. His works consist of oil paintings, drawings, print editions and Italian Notebook editions. The common denominator of the oil paintings and drawings are the artist's improvisation against the conventional approaches in context, form, time and space. The exhibition is also an expression of the artists' quest for innovation still going strong in his 55th year of making art, with fresh works of a striking and riveting kind.

Mehmet Güleryüz skillfully uses theatrical elements of satire and comedy through social and political criticism that has been the integral part of his works as a result of his background in theater. The oil paintings "Stamboli: Towards A City" (250x180 cm x2. Diptych, 2012) was presented at The Empire Project stand in the 2012 Contemporary Istanbul art fair for the first time. The 2x3m sized artwork "Far Away" (2013) will be seen for the first time in this exhibition. There will also be drawing series and print editions of them as well as editions of Italian notebooks with the artist's drawing and notes.
