"In Your Home" is a self-portrait series started in 2008, in which the artist has intuitively and secretly appropriated other people's private spaces with her own nude body. When she has been left alone in someone's house, even if for a few fleeting minutes, she whipped out her compact 35mm camera, and with the use of the self-timer, shot herself in the domestic space, without the host's knowledge. She used bedside tables, piles of books, or wardrobes as makeshift tripods, and placed herself in the space through an intuitive and spontaneous choice of composition.
The privacy of her body overlaps with the privacy of the domestic space, and the resulting marriage is exposed through its confrontational display into the public sphere. Featured recently in Artforum Critics' Picks, Rasha Kahil's "In Your Home" can be viewed at The Empire Project on Sep 23 - Oct 29.
